Getting Your Family to Embrace A Healthy Lifestyle

Being a wife and a mom can really be tough. Every day is a juggling act as you manage the household, go to work, and take care of your family. One of the biggest challenges is making sure everyone is getting the right kind of nutrition. When you are all on the go, it’s easy to fall into the junk food and fast food trap. You’ve decided that is not going to happen on your watch. Take some simple tips to make sure the ones you love are eating right.

Have Nutritional Snacks at the Ready
If you know that your kids and husband are going to grab the first thing they can get their hands on, make sure they only have good choices. Get rid of the chips and the cookies. Cut up fruit and vegetables. Have them ready in baggies or to-go cups. Add some low-fat yogurt or yogurt dip to spice things up. Stock up on whole grain crackers, rice cakes, and other low-fat snacks that will fulfill their cravings for something salty. Yogurt is always a good choice. There are plenty of flavors to make everyone happy.

Make Smoothies and Try Juicing
With help from the Blender Babes, you can put your vitamix blender to work with great recipes for smoothies that will enrich everyone’s diet. Get the vitamins, protein, and fiber that you all need in a tasty creation that seems like a dessert. Give juicing a go and you can make sure everyone stays on the healthy track with juices that are a blend of fruits and vegetables.

Shop for the Week Ahead
Make sure that you plan your grocery shopping trip for the entire week ahead. Otherwise, you are more likely to eat out or order take-out when you don’t have food on hand in your cabinets. Sit down and carefully plan out your meals for the week so that you will know exactly what you need to buy. Stick to your list, don’t shop when you are hungry, and find ways to shop by yourself. You will avoid those impulse buys that could derail your efforts. When you shop with care, you will find yourself bringing home the right kind of foods for your family. In the end, everyone will appreciate it when they feel and look great.

  1. We’re really working hard at being healthier….we get a little better every week and adding shakes in the am is something we’ve been trying to do. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I have tried to make smoothies so many times that I gave up it never comes out right at home but we love them. I don’t think smoothie king is as healthy as what I could make at home though

  3. Great tips! About 3 years ago I made some really drastic changes to my lifestyle after realizing I was obese after years of living in obvious denial. I cut out almost all sugar and started walking/jogging/running between 2 to 4 miles a day. I lost 70 pounds. Just recently my fiance has been making some of the same lifestyle changes after being diagnosed with severe hypertension. We’re walking a lot more now that the winter weather has finally broke and we’ve moved to cut out the majority of the sodium in our diets. Here’s to healthier bodies for the both of us!

  4. I’m a relatively new stepmonster to a 13 year old teen. I do the majority of the cooking and I was worried about how he’d feel about vegetarian food, but he’s been really cool about it. I think part of my success is that I didn’t make a big deal out of the situation. I cooked what I wanted to cook, stocked the fridge with veg-friendly snacks and he just accepted it, now he even has favorites!

  5. In our house, I’m the one who worries about making sure that we have healthy stuff all the time. My Mom is usually left at home and I dunno if she always picks the healthier choices when my brother and I are not around.

Is Blender Babes easy to clean? I’ve been wanting to get one so I could make a smoothie anytime I want and cut down on extra costs when I purchase them.

  6. These are really good tips for helping your family eat healthier. It really comes down to what I buy. If we have junk in the cupboards, that’s what gets eaten. If I shop healthier and smarter…than our diets are way better off!

  7. I love this post, I’m really in to eating healthy and always cook at home, but I’ve been travelling since October and have found it very difficult to find healthy food for every meal! Definitely try to stick to as much fruit as possible!

  8. More like, my husband is DYING for me to eat healthy and I just don’t want to! LOL. I mean, I do like eating healthy (if someone else makes all the food for me) but I do love my pizza + pastas!

  9. This has been on my mind lately. I need to be more intentional about buying healthy snacks instead of the prepackaged junk we are so used to buying (and eating).

  10. These are great tips for becoming a healthier family. I love the idea of juicing which is really good for you. My family loves smoothies but we have not tried juicing yet. Thanks for sharing.

  11. I’m not adverse to trying juicing. I’d love to incorporate more ways for the kids to eat/drink healthy too… my teen especially, who has developed a taste recently for junkie foods.

  12. These are some great tips, I do not yet have a husband or kids but I am making sure I am eating healthy, snacking on fruits and making smoothies as well as shopping ahead

    1. You are doing well then! Much easy to worry about your own food intake, than a whole family and sometimes having family members resist. LOL 😉 Keep it up!

  13. These tips can surely promote healthy eating lifestyle for the whole family. Smoothies and fruit shakes are one of the best methods ever. Also, making all things ready to consume, for example sliced oranges and apples, helps a lot too!

  14. Indeed, this seems to be one of the biggest issues today, with all the hurrying around, nobody has time to eat well. A big challenge but greater reward in return. If I may share an idea, perhaps a dehydrator might be useful to make ”easy to carry” and ”non-messy” fruit or other food snacks for on the go…

  15. We ditched processed foods and we have green smoothies, with chia seeds, every morning for breakfast in our house. Snacks are; nutter butter with fruit, hummus w/veggies, or nuts/seeds. I love making my own hummus and nut butters in my Blentec 725!

What do you think?
