Getting Organized For Going Back To School & A Pinterest Link Up!

It’s hard to believe, but kids are going back to school very soon. Some kids have already started school if its year round school. My son starts the first grade next week! So of course I’m thinking about daily schedules and things I can do around the house to make the school year run smoothly and the day-to-day business that school brings.  Here are some ideas for you.

Create a command center. This will be the place you pick your things up to head out the door, and hang your things up when you come home. It reduces clutter! Maybe its in your mud room or entry way, put in a bench seat for kiddos to put their shoes. Have hooks for backpacks, keys,  a coupon folder for when you need to run to the store after work, sticky notes and a dry erase board to leave messages for family members.

I also just started portioning out the snacks and creating a designated snack bin in the fridge that has grabable items for lunch boxes for the week or snacks on the go. I’ve even done this with the giant things of gold-fish crackers you get at Sam’s club. I portioned out a couple of weeks worth of baggies for popping them in a diaper bag or lunch box when I’m crunching on time. We all know that when school is back in session it’s often hard to stay on time, so portioning out food out ahead of time saves a whole lot of time later in the week!

Not keen on the idea of plastic baggies. That’s ok, I’m not either. You can find these cute reusable baggies on Amazon.com

I really enjoy packing my son’s lunch for school.  A couple of days a week he’ll have a hot lunch just because I want him to eat other foods I might not have at home and sometimes I don’t have time on certain nights to pack his lunch, however, if I utilize the portioned out foods from above, I might be able to make his lunch every day this year!  I truly love packing his lunch for him and now that he’s entering first grade he can actually read the notes I pack him in his lunch box! I love writing a little note that he’ll read half way through the day and know that mommy is thinking about him and loves him.

Also my son can get burnt out on the every day sandwich, so I like to mix it up and make tortilla rolls, egg salad sandwiches or apple tuna sandwiches for him, still sometimes the sandwich is left but all the sides are eaten.  Below is some lunch box ideas from keeleymcquire.com

Now unless you have a preschooler, no doubt your child will be bringing home tons of papers and homework. Make sure they have an adequate place to do their school work that isn’t the dinning room table. Most likely your child will be doing homework while you are making dinner some nights. Having their own special homework station or desk, on a wall in your dinning room or in their bedroom can help keep the paper clutter at bay.

If you don’t have a lot of space for a child’s desk in your home. Consider a Murphy’s desk. It folds out when you need to use it, and you can hide the paper clutter inside the desk and fold it away!
