Beating the Mommy Body Blues: Simple Ways to Get Your Figure Back Big Time

One of the most exciting things a woman goes through in her life is raising her children. With children come great joy and pleasure. There is, however, one thing that plagues every woman right after giving birth that provokes more frowns than smiles. For obvious reasons, women tend to gain pounds during their pregnancies and after the births of their children, they are faced with the seemingly daunting task of being to wear the clothes in their closets again. There are quite a few simple options for moms to consider as they strive to regain their previous figures.

Group Exercise

Whenever people are faced with challenges in life, it is usually much easier to tackle them when there is a partner in crime. This is very true when it comes to exercising. Since one of the most effective strategies to losing pregnancy fat is to exercise regularly, it is definitely important to include this in the mommy routine. Joining a mommy exercise club is probably the best way to stay motivated to lose weight while getting to know other new moms in the neighborhood. With multiple people in the group, new moms can find encouragement from each other with peers who have common goals. Running or exercise groups for moms also provide consistent schedules for exercising, making it easier to participate regularly.

Walk

For some moms, exercise is not possible until up to six weeks past childbirth especially those who had to undergo C-sections. In this case, walking around the house can help burn calories and help with fat loss. It is okay to start slow and begin with just walking around inside the house. The best thing to do is increase the distance bit by bit so that after the body heals from the birth process, it is ready to take on more exercise.

Eat Healthy Snacks

One of the easiest things to do to rebound from the weight gain is to make sure healthy snacks are on the shopping list. This means avoiding empty calories like soda and chips and turning to healthier eats like whole grains, eggs, fruits, and vegetables. Keep in mind that if babies are breastfed, it is extremely important to monitor everything that is being consumed. Being picky about each meal’s ingredients can certainly help moms lose pregnancy fat and get their previous figures back.

Follow DVD Programs

Many celebrities have put together programs that they sell in DVD sets. These can be purchased and followed. The DVDs are usually a blend of exercise and diet, and are often very regimented. The plans are to be followed day-by-day if the desire is to lose baby fat and return to the pre-baby figure. These routines are perfect for those who like to follow lists, check things off, and stick to a strict schedule. Since babies need schedules and routines, it is easy for moms to build a program into their days.

Breastfeed

Believe it or not, between 500 and 700 calories are burned while breastfeeding. It is actually the making of the milk that burns calories. The body burns up to 20 calories for each ounce of milk produced, The only thing to really monitor when using this strategy to burn fat is that eventually, the baby is no longer going to breastfeed. If the mother’s intake of calories is not lowered when the baby is weaned from breastfeeding, the weight lost can come right back.

Surgery

The reality with having a baby is that the body is not going to be exactly the same as it was because of all the changes that occurred during pregnancy. One option for moms is to seek plastic surgery, especially when it seems to be impossible to shed those last few pounds. There are plastic surgeons who specialize in helping moms realize their post-baby dream bodies. For some people, this may be the only viable option.

Sleep

It is extremely important for moms to get sleep. When there is a lack of sleep, the body is not going to function at its optimum. Although it may be difficult to find more than an hour to sleep at a time, it is important for moms to ask for help and assure they are getting the sleep they need. When new moms get less than six hours of continuous sleep, studies have shown that they have a more difficult time shedding their pounds than those who found between six and nine.

Although losing pregnancy or baby fat can seem overwhelming at first, there are, in fact, many simple things that can be done. With self-discipline, no matter the strategy used, moms can be proud of their bodies after birthing their children if they put their minds to the process. No one strategy fits all, so it is important for moms to reflect on their habits and preferences and make the decision that fits them best.

  1. These are great tips for beating the mommy body blues. I will pass these along to my friends. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Oh yes, but oh so hard with a newborn. I think it can be hard to prioritize sleep when the baby sleeps when you’ve got a sink of dishes, but often you just have to put the to do list aside for your own health.

  2. Women need to stop looking at & reading about ‘celeb’ Mums who are tiny again after just a couple of weeks. We all would be if we had personal trainers, chefs and nannies!

  3. A lot of moms think that’s it’s going to be tough to go back in shape, when really, there are plenty of ways to do it. You can always start by eating healthy and living healthy, and once you get in the groove, add in some exercise and you’re good.

  4. I used to have a neighbor/friend I worked out with at the gym It was much nicer than doing it on my own! Saw your nice comment, we are having a great summer and I hope you are too. 🙂

  5. awesome read and tips, i have a few new mommy friends who would find this very helpful. i know alot of them are solely focused on their babies that they wont even consider the thought of anything lol but will share anyway

  6. I have a friend who just gave birth. And she is thinking of how to get back her figure. Maybe I can send her this link. I bet this might help her to get her figure back.

What do you think?
