Getting Settled In

Good Morning! We are slowly but surely settling into our new home, getting boxes unpacked and making this place functional. I spent three days deep cleaning the kitchen. It seemed like there was a layer of grease on everything. It’s finally cleaned and it was the first room unpacked. I figured the kitchen needed to be the first room as that’s where everyone will gather for a meal and I should know where everything is so I can cook.

I’m so glad we labeled every box and the movers knew exactly what room to take boxes to. A few here and there ended up in other rooms, but for the most part, we didn’t have to do any heavy lifting with the U-haul they packed. They delivered it right to our new address and unpacked everything into the appropriate rooms. Other than the second U-haul we had to pack ourselves, it was cake. I shouldn’t say that. Moving is never cake…even with movers. Scott and I still woke up to hurt backs and shoulders and being utterly exhausted all three days of this move.

Immediately when our moving truck arrived at our new address, the kids made friends with five little girls who live next door. This is one of those little girls. Those girls have been so excited to have neighbors that have kids their age. The following day, we were invited to a neighborhood s’mores roasting across the street. It’s such a friendly neighborhood. Everyone waves at you when they walk down the street or introduces themselves. Its awesome!

Thankfully I have a physical therapy appointment this morning to help manage some of that pain from lifting and moving boxes. Hopefully I can get back on track after moving and be pain-free again like I was days before we moved.

I can’t wait to unload my office. I have a washer and dryer coming Thursday! I’m so excited about it, as the current washer and dryer is just nasty! My new washer and dryer is cherry red! I also have a new couch coming next Thursday. I’m sad I have to wait so long for that one. Once the couch is here though, I think it will start to feel more homey.

I’m definitely having fun now organizing and unpacking…this is the fun part of moving and I can do it at my own pace…not on a deadline.

What’s the thing you hate the most about moving?

  1. Moving sucks!!! You never realize how much crap you have until you have to pack. Enjoy making your new house into a home ?

  2. I just get flustered over the whole moving experience! Deciding what to pack, what to giveaway & what to throw away. I really don’t like the cleanup detail!! I always make sure the house is clean after we are packed & ready to go.

  3. Congrats!!! My least favorite part of moving was those 3 months we were “in between houses”. Living with my in-laws. In a basement. In the middle of nowhere. Never. Again.

  4. I am a military brat and a military wife – I have moved more times than I can count. I love moving, I HATE packing. I don’t even mind unpacking – except the kitchen. Hate unpacking the kitchen (you rock for doing it first…I always end up doing it last). Packing, through. THANK GOODNESS when my husband finished his military career last year the Navy movers took care of packing. My stress level was drastically reduced because of it! 🙂

  5. I Hate Moving Period LOL! I Will Be Moving In 2 Weeks Myself Not Looking Forward To The Packing & Unpacking I Feel For Ya!!

  6. Moving is definitely one of my more stressful experiences- at least it could very easily be! It sounds like you’re working on getting settled in. I certainly remember plenty of aches & pains from lifting boxes during my last move.Hope your pains go away soon.

  7. Yay for getting settled in!! Your new washer and dryer sounds nice! Moving is so stressful–we have to move in a few months and I am totally not looking forward to it!

  8. A cherry red washer and dryer sounds fun. Mine are just plain old boring white. It would be fun to have a pop of color.

  9. It’s not always easy to move, well, it’s never easy! But I’m glad you’re adjusting well and that you have really kind neighbors. I’m sure you’ll be able to unpack everything in no time!

  10. I am glad moving is going so good for you. My least favorite by of moving is the unpacking. I still have boxes that are unpacked from when I moved in March. Labeling is so important when moving. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  11. Moving is definitely a drag, especially when you have accumulated a ton of stuff and then get to move it. I hope i dont have to deal with that ever!

  12. I hate trying to find everything while half the world is still in boxes. I hope we don’t have to move anytime soon. Glad you are getting settled.

What do you think?
