I love seasons. It seems that right when I am getting sick of one season, things start to change. That is the beauty of the world we live in. I know you east coasters are so ready for spring you can taste it! I’m ready, but we’ve hardly had a winter on the west coast. We had exactly two snowstorms this winter and that was it. We are in a drought here in Arizona and really need rainfall badly.
As so many of you know we moved into our home a few years ago and are in the constant state of renovating, painting, fixing up things and that also includes our landscaping. I’ve learned some things last spring that I can’t wait to try out this spring. Last year we grew vegetable in our garden in the back yard. We grew potatoes, cilantro and jalapenos, but I also want to plant the pretty stuff too! I learned about annual flowers and perennials, flowers that grow back every year. I want to plant some pretty perennials in both our front and back garden beds and do some potted plants as well. I really just can’t wait to open the windows and let the fresh air in!
When we moved in, I had yard envy. Our neighbors across the street had beautiful green grass and we had a yard full of weeds. I hated it. I was on a mission to rid the yard of those nasty weeds and crab grass. It was easier to deweed the front yard than it was the back yard since the back yard is bigger. But last year we turned a back yard full of weeds, to a yard full of grass soft enough to walk on.
A good majority of the work was reseeding the yard by hand and pulling weeds for hours and hours and planting grass seed wherever I pulled a weed. It was torturous, but so worth it! Now of course I have a good seed spreader and less work ahead of me since we know when and how to weed/feed the yard.
With that all done, our yard is still missing some fun things that make being outdoors so great. I love garden bed accessories like knomes and toads and yardenvy.com has some awesome recycled glass bird feeders that would look really cool hanging in one of our trees. I also really want a hammock so I can read in it while the kids are playing outside.
So Needless to say this spring we will be getting the hang of maintaining a green yard since we fixed our sprinkler system. We’ll be planting pretty perennials in our front yard, and reflowering our window flower boxes. I can tell around the blogosphere people are getting antsy about spring too. Ginger from Tales of A Ranting Ginger is totally ready for spring too and just power washed her patio and put up white Christmas lights for dining outdoors! I really want to put some up on our patio too! I can’t wait for barbecue season!
What about Spring, Excites You?
