10 Versatile Warm Weather Dress Styles

Now that winter is settling down and stepping aside for the warm spring weather, it’s time to get your spring dress style revamped. Bring out those easy dresses that are perfect for the warmest days. If you’re not sure what kind of dress you should try, here are 10 popular dress styles that work for most body types during the warm weather.

1. Wrap Dress

If you’re worried about picking the wrong dress for your body type, don’t be with the classic wrap dress. A wrap dress is a perfect piece for any shape, figure, or size. It’s typically a dress that comes to your knees or slightly lower. It gets its name from the fact that the dress literally wraps around your curves with two sides of its fabric. It’s secured closed usually by tying the end pieces together.

2. Shift Dress

Another versatile style for most body types is the shift dress. This dress is typically a shorter dress that hangs loosely on your body. It doesn’t have a well-defined waist or structure to it, making it an easy choice for a lazy spring day. Shift dresses are sleeveless and have their origins in the flapper dress of the roaring twenties. For spring, you can easily pair up your shift dress with a cardigan sweater, or you can give it more shape with a belt looped around the waist.

3. The Sheath

A similar style to the shift dress is the sheath dress. Sheath dresses are also usually sleeveless, but unlike the loose fit of the shift dress, the sheath variety hugs the wearer’s curves more. This makes the sheath dress require more structure in the fabric to help make the closer fit more flattering for most body types.

4. The A-Line

Next for spring, you should consider the A-line dress. Traditionally, the A-line dress was something created by Christian Dior for a fashion line in the 1950s. In its early days, the A-line featured a dress that was fitted at the shoulder area and a skirt that fell in an angled A-line to the knee. Today, the A-line is even more tailored and flattering.

5. Maxi Dress

If you want a little more coverage in your spring dress wardrobe, try a maxi dress. This type of casual spring dress is the only style that has a floor length skirt. Maxi dresses avoid looking too fancy with light fabrics, like jersey, cotton, or polyester blends.

6. Swing Dress

For a bolder look, the swing dress may be the best bet. The swing dress, also known as the trapeze dress, doesn’t have a defined waist. Instead, it billows out from the form-fitting part at your shoulders or chest. It can be a great choice if you have figure flaws you’re trying to hide, or if you want a casual, airy dress for hot days.

7. Skater Dress

Somewhat new to the world of consumer fashion, the skater dress got its name from the typical figure skater outfit. It consists of a form-fitting top and a short, wide skirt. At Tobi, you can find many different styles of this comfortable dress that could work with your body type.

8. The Midi

After the maxi dress became so popular a few years ago, the next trend was the midi dress. The midi dress is primarily focused on the length of the skirt. For women who want a dress option for work that isn’t too short or too long like the maxi, the midi can be it. Unlike other casual dresses, the midi’s length goes to the knees or just past them for a demure look.

9. Shirt Dress

The shirt dress is also a great casual dress that works for all figures. It gets its name from the look of the top of the dress, which is like a button down shirt. The rest of the dress resembles a larger shirt, so it may need some belting or accessories to make it work for your style.

10. Bodycon Dress

The last great dress for spring that could work for many different looks is the bodycon dress. Don’t be afraid to show off your curves in this form-fitting look. Many bodycon dresses feature figure-flattering materials that help smooth flaws and make you look your best.

When it’s time to strut your stuff in the warmer weather, try a cute spring dress. Pick a variety of dress styles that are designed to make you look incredible this spring.

  1. I don’t usually wear dresses if I can avoid them lol. I used to love them though. When I had a slimmer shape. Mainly because most of my weight is in the front and I look pregnant when I wear a dress. But, skirts? I’m all for lol.

  2. I am not big into interests but they are probably the most comfortable thing to wear. In the summertime it is so hot it would probably be better to wear dress here. I love all the different styles you mentioned here.

  3. I am in dresses all the time in the warm weather. I think they are so much cooler when it’s super hot out.

  4. Most of these are new to me! But I like them all. Wish I could pull off dresses. They are super cute! Perfect for Spring and Summer!

  5. All of these need to be updated in my spring and summer wardrobe. I want to continue to add Maxi dresses this year and get me a few skater skirts that fit me!

  6. I have to take a good hard look in my closet and see what kind of spring/summer clothes I would be needing. Dresses are fun to wear, and yes, I agree with you, very versatile to suit any occasion.

  7. This is an awesome list of dress for the spring and summer months. The shift dress style is the one I would feel most comfortable in this spring. Thanks for sharing these awesome dress types.
