2017 Trends in Cabinet Storage

CrystalCove

The kitchen cabinets are usually reserved for storage, but they can also be a way to show off the dishes and other items in the room that you want others to see. There are custom kitchen cabinet design ideas that can lift the room from one that is boring and simple to one that is modern with plenty of storage while using the same amount of space.

An island with cabinets on the bottom is an ideal storage area for the pots, pans and other tools that you need to prepare meals and cook. You can use the space on the top of the island for everything from rolling out dough to putting items together to cook on the stove or in the oven. The doors of the cabinets will hide all of the items that you use while giving you the beautiful look for storage space in the center of the room. A natural wood works well with an island along with white cabinets.

Instead of putting dishes on the cabinet shelves so that they sit, consider stacking them on racks inside the cabinet. The racks can be installed so that they can be easily removed when you need several dishes at one time. Another option is to add the racks above the dishes that are sitting on the cabinet shelves. This will tend to double the space that you have inside the cabinets, making it an ideal solution for smaller homes or apartments.

Vertical spaces can be used for storing wine, cans or other bottles that tend to have nowhere to go in the kitchen. A cabinet facing can be added to the vertical space to keep the bottles and cans from sight. Another idea for cabinets is to install racks that roll out so that you can store the lids to your pots and plastic bowls. You can also utilize cabinet space on top of the counters to store everything from paper towels to the small items that you need to use on a regular basis but sometimes get lost in the shuffle of cooking and washing dishes, such as a vegetable peeler or a small juicer.

  1. I am always into all kinds of shelving and cabinets. Personally I think that too much space is not taken advantage for storage. Why more houses and apartments don’t have more automatically built in I’ll never know. Don’t get me started on closets(laughing) The coolest example I ever saw of someone being super-organized was Tina Turner. She had drawers…in drawers…check it out online-I’m not kidding!

  2. I can wait to own my own home again, so I can fix it up how I like it… great cabinets and I hope to have a functioning island as well some day!

  3. I love all of those light colored cabinets. I would love to remodel our kitchen and cabinets, but I think we just need a bigger house in general. Not enough storage space here!

  4. These are all great tips for cabinet storage trends. I love the idea of using the racks on the top of the cabinets for more storage space. It is more organized I believe too. Thanks for sharing the tips.

  5. Our kitchen cabinets sure look plain and boring. I love the idea of stacking dishes on rack – would save on space too!

  6. A timely post for us .. my husband and I are in the middle of a kitchen remodel. I know the trend these days is more and more storage .. although I just finished Marie Kondo’s book about tidying up. I’ve become a minimalist! That being said .. I love the vertical cabinets you mentioned. Those I’m going to have to figure out how incorporate!

  7. they are usually the first thing a guest will notice about your kitchen. For this reason, when going through a kitchen remodel, it is important to consider all of your options before you purchase your new kitchen cabinets.

What do you think?
