My four-year-old, soon to be five-year-old, will be starting kindergarten this year. Last August I made sure to put this kid on waiting lists at four of the top schools in our town. We knew we wouldn’t hear back from the schools or see if he was drawn in the lottery on these wait lists until February of this year and I am excited to say that he’s in one of the schools we signed him up for and made the waiting list for the other two. The fourth one is the top public elementary school in our town, and he’s automatically in, since it’s a public school. However, it is only our back up option. Its been weeks of open house meetings, interviews with teachers, and even little JJ being interviewed and I’m tired, but so excited for my son’s opportunity to get a great education.
Now that all the registration forms have been filled out, turned in, open houses attended, its kind of waiting game for certain schools. However the school he did get into, I’m extremely excited about. I thought our odds weren’t that great at getting in. I’ve heard so many parents over the years rave and rave about this school and how miraculous it is to make their wait lists, let alone being called and told your child got in. So to get that call and being told we were in the first round of calls that went out, felt so good! It felt like a huge weight was lifted off my chest and I think we are pretty set at going to this school, or its sister school.
If you have a child starting school this year, have you had to go through some of the same loop holes and weeks of filling out forms? For me, I’m so glad its over!
