County Fair, Funnel Cakes, School and Birthdays

Today is my birthday! I am 37 years young. Its been quite a year. This time last year, life felt so foreign. I had just moved to a different state where I didn’t know anyone. I don’t even know what I did on my birthday. I probably cried. But this year its different. We are settled in a new part of the state, have a wonderful home, we are happy and life has been fun and adventurous. I can’t ask for more than this.

Last weekend we went to the Larimer County Fair and ate funnel cakes!

I mean this is why you go to the fair right?

The kids got to see goat roping, which I think can be a little sad for the goat. I’m not really big on the rodeo scene here and the general treatment of animals I see at fairs and rodeos, but its a big big thing in Colorado.

The kids loved the entertainers on stilts.

We didn’t ride any rides, we literally just went for street tacos and funnel cake. We got some entertainment out of it for a few hours then when it got too hot and we got too parched, we took our funnel cakes home. In fact, Scott and I were joking that the best thing about the fair is always the funnel cake and that we should go to the other county fairs nearby just to get our funnel cake fix for the season. I guess we that makes us super fans. Scott even looked up a recipe to make funnel cake at home!

Earlier this week, I also finished up the rest of our back to school shopping. I’m grateful that the kids’ school puts the list out online at the end of the previous school year so that you can buy the supplies throughout the summer. So I was able to focus more on back to school clothes, shoes, and just a new lunch box for Jaydon this week.

I also want to let you know about a review coming soon for a great snack option for kids called phyter food bars. These bars can fit inside lunch boxes, but they do need to stay refrigerated. So an ice pack would be necessary. More on that later though. ūüėČ

We’ve also fit in some splash pad fun, and the kids’ new school is doing a back to school pool party tomorrow so we’ve got more summer to enjoy before next week begins!

I hope you’ve enjoyed your summer as well. Are you excited for the back to school season? Or a bit sad? My kids are excited, so I’m excited for them.

  1. Happy birthday!!!! We love country fairs, too, and never get tired of them. Some of the most fun ones are the small ones that don’t get much media press.
