Create the Perfect Exercise Space in Your Home

If you’re committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, it’s important to figure out ways you can add exercise time to your day. Besides joining a gym, a great way to make exercise more convenient in your life is to turn an unused space in your home into an exercise room. A room devoted to fitness in your home can help you make exercise an easy priority. To help you reach your fitness goals, you should aim to make the room design ideal. Here are some simple methods of making your exercise room great.

Pick a Durable Flooring Material

The ideal space for fitness starts with a suitable floor. Because you will be doing physical activity in the room, you want to choose a surface that is safe and forgiving. Hard surfaces like wood or tile may be dangerous if you fall during an exercise. A soft, springy surface is also much better on your knees and feet when you do high impact exercises, such as jumping jacks or aerobics. Surfaces such as foam, carpet, cork, or rubber may be the best options.

Install Floor Length Mirrors

A great exercise room should also be lined with floor length mirrors around the perimeter of the wall. This can help make your space even more beneficial to your new activities. First, it makes the room appear much larger because of the illusion of space the mirrors add. Secondly, having mirrors all around can help you determine if you’re performing the exercise or activity correctly. With a mirror, you can see exactly what you’re doing and make corrections if needed to get more out of the exercise.

Buy a Variety of Equipment Pieces

Another way you can make your fitness room great is to stock it with plenty of equipment pieces. At a minimum, you should have at least one cardio machine, such as a treadmill, stair climber, or an elliptical. Strength training equipment should also be included in your inventory when buying supplies for your space.

Upgrade Your Entertainment Possibilities

Exercising can be tough if you get bored in the middle of your workout. Most gyms and health clubs have plenty of entertainment options to help the time go by faster as you exercise. Likewise, you should add some digital media options to your room so you can improve your workout strategy. Consider installing a flat screen television, a DVD player, and speakers for music to help you feel more motivated to move.

Ensure There’s Enough Air Circulation

A healthy workout space also needs to be paired with plenty of air circulation options. Make sure you put some floor fans or ceiling fans in your room so you don’t overheat during your fitness routine and activities. You should also make sure your HVAC unit can keep up with the demand for your dedicated fitness space. Consider hiring air conditioning experts like Ray & Son Heating and Air Conditioning.

Allow for Plenty of Space

The last thing to consider before converting a space into an exercise room is if there is enough space. If you have a small room, you’ll need to make decisions about configuration that help maximize your space effectively. You’ll also need to consider if there is enough room for you to do movements from exercise DVDS, or if there is enough space for a large piece of fitness equipment. This way, you can ensure your plan for an area devoted to fitness will work, and your space won’t feel cramped.

The best way you can help put fitness as a priority into your life and get healthier is by having your own space in your home dedicated to it. Once you’ve chosen to do this, plan ahead to make your room work for your goals.

  1. These are great tips for making a space in your home a gym! Thank you so much for sharing! I used to do yoga every morning when I only had one kid, but now that I have three I find it so hard!

  2. It would be so nice to have an exercise at home. I think I can make this possible by re-arranging things and getting rid of clutter. I will ask my husband and see what he thinks about this idea.

  3. I think we could free up some space in the basement and set up an exercise space. I am not allowed to do strenuous exercises but an exercise space to try some simple stretching (possibly yoga or tai chi) would be nice.
