DIY Decor From Ordinary Household Items!

Its time for another Pinterest link up and a little blog love to those DIYers out there! I tend to showcase a lot of recipes because I just love cooking something up in the kitchen that my family will love. Just last night I made this awesome home-made chili mac recipe from  and it was superb!

This Chili Mac recipe will be going into my book of recipes on PepperPlate that will go into my menu planning rotation! It was YUM!

Anyway, on to this week’s featured Pinterest link up. I figured I’d get off of recipes for now and showcase some DIY decor projects that you can construct using ordinary things from around your house.

This pen lamp shade totally caught my eye! I mean if you tend to buy a lot of this particular style pen, why not construct a cool lampshade with the left over pen tubes?

Also being the coffee lover that I am, a beautiful place to hang really unique looking coffee mugs would be cool and this is done via a left over wooden pallet!

I know we’ve all seen the wooden pallet projects and trust me I have a whole side yard full of them. I had planned on making my kids a wooden pallet playhouse…we’ve yet to work on it. Hopefully soon.

Now if these weren’t the most ordinary items you’d find in a kitchen, but don’t they make great lighting!?

Want a decorative yet purposeful way to use an old basket, turn it on its side and make it a towel holder!

I have a painting in my family room that looks like a tree shedding its autumn leaves. It’s in panels perfectly spaced and often looks a little 3D like. I spotted this DIY wall decoration using branches you could find in your yard!

  1. I love, love those cheese grater lights!!! People are so creative. I need to somehow train my brain to look at things differently. Great roundup!

  2. These ideas are really awesome! I love the idea of upcycling items and using them in different ways than their original use!

  3. I am not creative, but this post helps me think outside the box and try different ideas from ordinary household items. I really like the grater light idea and want to try it out!

  4. I really like the cheese grater lamps! I’m forever picking up things & thinking that that would come in handy one day but then they sit there gathering dust!
