Don’t Be Boring! Get Your Adventuring On With Urban Adventure Quest!

Last Saturday we headed down to Boulder Colorado to do something fun, adventurous and different. If you’ve ever watched The Amazing Race, you’ll understand how the Urban Adventure Quest Works. Basically its a scavenger hunt around one of 66 different cities across the United States. Yes, you may be able to do Urban Adventure Quest in your own town!

Now without giving away many of the details or clues, you will need to bring some things with you so you can solve challenges faster. We forgot to bring a pen and paper, so I tried writing things down in my phone, but a pen and paper would have made it a little easier since I was also recording things with my phone for our YouTube channel. You also need your smart phone to play the game. When you sign into Urban Adventure Quest you will start off at a point of interest and be given a question to answer about the specific location you are in or a challenge to complete. Once you answer the question or complete the challenge you move on to the next question. The phone app will direct you where to go for each question. It can take two to three hours to get through all the challenges.

Here’s the highlight reel of our fun scavenger hunt:

One of the things I loved about the Adventure Quest was being able to do it while the Farmer’s Market was going on. I was able to stop and buy some honey with turmeric in it.

While my 6-year-old wasn’t quite into the game, my nine-year-old really liked helping us find clues and solve some of the questions. Now our team didn’t make the leaderboard, but it wasn’t really about winning for us. It was more about doing something fun as a family.  Each city has a top ten team leaderboard and you can play the game competitively if you want. With each question, you answer you get points. If you happen to need a hint to answer a question, you are docked points, so pay attention to details. If you can get through the game in under two hours you stand a chance to be on the leaderboard.

You’ll have to remember to look down because some clues, you’ll find on sidewalks.

Tips for Playing the Game and What you’ll want to bring with you:

  1. pen and paper.
  2. pack snacks or bring money to purchase food with a street vendor.
  3. Wear a backpack to keep important things with you.
  4. Wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses
  5. YOU NEED YOUR SMARTPHONE to play the game.
  6. You may need a street map, or use a second phone to navigate while a partner reads the questions and clues.
  7.  Don’t be afraid to take pictures with your smart phone because some images may become important as you work through the game.
  8. Read each clue/question very very carefully. Carelessly answering questions, could dock you points.

So how much does it cost to play the Urban Adventure Quest? Just $49 bucks! Many people spend more just going out to dinner, so you might as well get a group of people together, have everyone chip in some money to play the game and be a tourist in a city near you!

  1. That looks like a fun time! I’ve actually been to that Teahouse even though I live in the Detroit area – the food and tea were very good. I visited Boulder and Denver for a work trip last year.

  2. This does look like a fun time, and not so “urban” that it still has oodles of charm. I always think of adventures as something for out in the country, but this has changed my mind!
