Focusing On Myself (New Territory)

Today I entered new territory. For about an hour and a half today I could focus on just myself. It felt oddly weird though. I kinda felt bad as soon as I stepped onto the elliptical machine. Why though? Why should I feel bad if I take this time now that my oldest is in school to take care of my body? I don’t know, I can’t logically think of a reason, but still part of me does.

See now that my 5-year-old is in Kindergarten and Braidy is under 5, I got a membership to a nearby gym. It has a pool and a hot tub and free childcare for members. I have struggled since Braidy was born to find the time to work out at home. Sure they say get your kids involved but, it never really worked. They would get distracted, would run off, start a fight with the other one, get in trouble doing something they weren’t supposed to do because they knew mommy was distracted, and I’d lose my momentum, my motivation and drive to keep myself in shape. I was lucky with JJ that my body kinda bounced back right after having him, and with Braidy I’m actually the same weight pre-pregnancy too, but things hang differently on me now and I just ain’t happy with that. So for my birthday, I asked my husband if it was ok to get a membership and he supported that idea. So now with a membership and one child in school, I really can focus on “me” now. I’ve given up focusing on my own well-being for five years now and its time….its time I take a little bit of time making “me” feel better.

Being a blogger, I tend to sit quite a bit reading emails, blogs, responding to comments, writing reviews, corresponding with brands, you name it, you know what it all entails if you are blogger and I dart between the office and the laundry room, the play room, the kitchen etc throughout the day, but really it wasn’t enough activity to get my body truly feeling good. Today, after a work out on two machines and a swim, I left that gym feeling great! I had energy again! I haven’t felt that good in a long time.

Fitness Goals:
So for right now, I’m hoping to lose some inches around my waist, tone my tummy and butt, and to turn a 20-minute work out into a half hour work out and then longer after that. I’m starting off small and hoping that being active will also help combat afternoon fatigue. I also want to join one of the Zumba classes they have! I always thought it looked like so much fun.

What have you done for yourself lately? Do you feel bad as a mom when you get that time to yourself, or do you feel good about it?

  1. That’s fantastic that you are able to take some time for you! It’s so important to do, and yet so hard to accomplish. I hope you enjoy your new gym!

  2. Good for you, we all need time to focus on me. If I am happy than everyone else is happy. I started doing a 30 minute video workout.

  3. Kudos To You We All Need To Pamper Ourselves Yet Alot Of Just Don’t We Always Put Everyone Else First Well I Think It’s About Time I Do For Me!!

  4. I found a really great workout program not long ago. If you’d like the name of it, shoot me an email. They complete a 21 day challenge and the results are unreal. I think it has a lot to do with the one week detox!

  5. I recently started working out, and I noticed that I feel a lot better now that I did before. I have more energy through my day.

  6. That’s great that you are able to work on yourself. That’s why I can’t wait to my 4 older kids go back to school! I don’t get any me time at all and have so much weight to lose. Enjoy the time! You deserve it. =)

  7. I think every mom should do something for their self at least one a week or even a few minutes a day. It is not healthy for you if you don’t. Mind, body, and soul need it. Thanks for sharing.

  8. My kids are teens so I get a lot of me time. It is so important to spend some quality time on yourself. It will help you mentally and physically.

  9. I’m trying to get things hanging right lately too. & while I still have a young one at home during the day while the other two go off, I do much better at home. My time is always limited on certain things & I have a million things to do, so all the drive time would kill me. Workout vids on YouTube have become my BFF though!
