Fresh Powder in Arizona!

Currently all week, we are under a winter storm advisory. JJ of course started school back up yesterday after the holidays and today he’s already had a 2 hour snow delay. He would be jealous to know that Braidy and I went sledding with my best Flagstaff mom friend and her boys.  This is Braidy’s first time sledding (not in the back yard). We made hills in our back yard before but they never could get going fast enough for the sledding to really take effect.

At first Braidy tried by himself and flipped over and didn’t want to do it again. Then he went with me on a two person sled and thought that was a blast so he had to go with me the next eight times before he could brave going with a friend or by himself again. Finally I got a picture of him with his best bud Evan.

The mittens stayed on the whole time, we were totally warm with doubled up socks and layers. Now we just have to take JJ when he’s not in school.

  1. That’s so fun! And sweet as well. It’s always nice to do these kinds of things with your kids, it makes for good quality time and precious memories as well. I hope JJ gets to join the next time! Good job, momma.

  2. You can keep it LOL. After all the feet we had in Boston last year, I am all set with snow for a while.

    1. LOL! Yeah, I’m actually enjoying it, its not bitterly cold. Its mild just at freezing, not windy and the kids have pretty much gotten a third week of winter break. They went back on Monday, but we are expecting 29 inches all in all and school has been canceled! I bet teachers are happy too. 😉

  3. How fun though! We just came back from a trip in the mountains and saw no snow! My girls were pretty disappointed, so next year I might have to plan our trip a little later in the month 🙂

    1. I was born in East Texas, then moved to Phoenix, didn’t experience real snow til I was an adult. I like snow better than rain, doesn’t mess up your hair, the kids love playing in it and its a good reason to have a fire going. 😉 You’d enjoy it I’m sure, but my Phoenix friends who come up to visit do get cold fast. Your blood thickens up in colder climates, but it takes awhile to adapt. Took me a couple years to get used to it. Now I can’t stand the heat and they laugh at me when I say 90 is hot knowing it gets to 110 down there.

  4. Wow, you guys got a lot of snow there. I’m in Toronto, Canada and we usually have snow around now, but there’s just green grass outside at the moment. We even had a green Christmas!

  5. Very cute kid you got there! 🙂 I bet he had a blast in all that snow. We too were in a storm advisory for a few days, but it really didn’t amount to much snow since the temps have been higher than usual for us.
Thanks for sharing, I liked this!

  6. We normally visit Pinetop to get a bit of snow during the holidays. We didn’t make it up this year, but we are planning on trying to go tubing before it all melts. 🙂

    1. Its a love hate relationship for me with snow. I love how happy my kids get when they see it and play in it, but hate the mud it tracks in daily and driving in it.

  7. These are indeed really adorable photos. I loved sledding when I was little and still do today many many years later. We live in Upper Michigan so we have snow all the time in the winter months.

    1. Oh I bet its so cold up there. People don’t think Arizona can be cold, but it really can where I live. We got down to -7 a few weeks ago. It was bad with the windchill. That’s when you just stay inside and eat soup!

    1. Yeah we got 29 inches last week. The highest peak in Arizona I believe sits at 12,000 feet and we live at 7,000 feet so we get a lot of snow, and its just two hours North of the infamous dessert of Phoenix, so it can be hard for people to believe we get snow. But we do all the way til May sometimes!

    1. Its definitely a secret. 😉 I think its just because when people think of Arizona, they think of Phoenix. The Northern Part of the state is an entirely different climate, much like Colorado.

  8. I am not a snow fan, but my kids are! We rarely have enough to sled in, but they certainly try whenever they have a chance. Your pics are adorable.

  9. I am so jealous right now. This year we moved from IL to SC and there’s nothing I miss more than the snow and bundling up to go sledding. I feel like living here is taking away a piece of the childhood my kids should have, the one I grew up with. Snowball fights, building snowmen, sledding!

  10. Snow days are fun no matter how old you are! I still get excited to see it snow (as long as I don’t have to drive too much) and we are buried under feet of it every January!

  11. We just got snow the day after we left for vacation but when we got back it was so wicked cold that we haven’t even had a chance to get outside and play! I can’t wait to take the little ones sledding 🙂

    1. That snow can be hard like a block of ice when it freezes over. No fun throwing snowballs them. I love when the temps are just above freezing and the snow is soft and powdery.
