Is there anything nicer than a hot bath at the end of the day? It can ease tense muscles, reduce blood pressure and gives you a quiet space to relax, unwind and clear your mind. An invigorating shower to start your day is equally as nice, and can really set you up for success in your day. You’ll feel fresh, more awake and it can even stimulate the lymphatic system which helps your body to detoxify itself and improve circulation. Either way, baths and showers are about much more than just getting clean. The bathroom is an important room in the house. If you don’t feel like you’re fully reaping the rewards of a nice bathroom, why not aim to upgrade this year? Here are some of the ways you can go about it.
The Suite
Your first job when upgrading your bathroom is to choose the suite. You can shop online for a convenient bathtub, shower, sink and toilet and find a set that matches your budget and personal taste. Have a think about the layout. If your current layout doesn’t work, switch things up. Maybe you could have a separate stand- up shower cubicle installed along with a freestanding bath? Perhaps moving things around would allow you to have a double sink vanity installed for an ultra glamorous look? Either way, work out how much space you have and the layout and then choose a suite that fits the bill.
The Tiles
It’s the tiles in older bathrooms which really bring down the look. Unlike paint and wallpaper, tiles can’t easily be changed. Meaning in most bathrooms they’re around for many years through different decor changes, and are usually past their best by the time you decide to bite the bullet and have them redone. They will instantly transform a bathroom making it look modern and also feel fresh and clean too. Have it tiled from top to bottom for the best finish. If your tiles are still in good condition and don’t look dated, use a grout tool to scrape out the grout and have them refilled making everywhere look clean and new. Darker tiles on the floor and lighter tiles on the wall are always a safe bet.
The Extras
Your new bathroom might look spectacular, but it’s the finishing touches that make it homely and practical. First, good storage that suits the design and fits the space is essential. Keep all of those half-finished products and kids toys out of the way to avoid it looking cluttered. Buy a fluffy new bath mat and new towels, and add decor and interest with a nice plant and perhaps some apothecary jars filled with soaps and bath bombs. Its practical as well as good looking! Your toothbrush holder, toilet brush and soap dish could all be replaced to giving a fresh new look throughout.

Beautiful! I want to remodel my bathroom so bad!
I would love to upgrade my bathroom! Hopefully soon I will be able to work on it. These are good ideas for when that time comes. Thanks!
It’s high time I remodeled my bathroom. I will keep these great ideas in mind.
Great tips on upgrading the bathroom. I was thinking of renovating my bathtub last month, now your blog post has motivated me to do so as soon as possible , thank you for sharing.
I would absolutely love a bathroom upgrade with a huge tub for relaxing. Also spacious areas to store things out of the way and finally the new fixtures and ceiling light.
We are redoing our kitchen and bathrooms this year. It was just time to upgrade and refreshen. We are excited to get started.
Oh, congrats! I hope it turns out wonderful!!
I would LOVE a bathroom upgrade but don’t have the funds at the moment. One day! We need new cabinets and tiling, big time.
Priorities first! Cabinets and tile seem like a big project anyway.
It’s been a long time since we renovated our bathroom and it would be nice to update it! I think these tips are perfect. Now I know where to start!
You’re welcome! Good luck!
Our master bathroom is still stuck in 1969, avocado green, and a shade of yellow. We did a little bit of work in there several years ago, but nothing like I want too. I’d love to gut it and redo it ourselves. I’m hoping to be able to do that soon.
Our house was flipped. The previous owner made it look lovely, but some things are not practical. Need to upgrade our main bathroom as soon as possible.
Sometimes people who flip it themselves can make big mistakes, but sometimes its a great investment for the house and your pocket. It’s called sweat equity. If your bathroom needs an upgrade, do it. It will help sell the place later.
I’d love to upgrade my bathroom and have a lovely big freestanding bath, that would be my dream! I really like that you included extras like the apothecary jars, that is a really good idea!
These are great tips. We have a guest bath that is in need of an update. It’s one of those things that keeps moving down the list.
We can’t afford any upgrade and really don’t have anything I’d change. It’s super easy to change up the look, which I do a couple of times a year by changing out towels, rugs and shower curtain.
Changing the tiles in a bathroom is quite a bit of work, but so worth it. We changed the tiles in our bathroom and it totally changed the look.
Great tips and pointers to remodel a bathroom. We did this a few years ago, and I planned the whole project. Quite happy with how it turned out.
My husband and I are planning to upgrade our bathrooms and kitchen. We are saving every penny so we could have our dream home 🙂
I think our bathroom is due for a makeover. These tips are going to help us when we do that. Yes, indeed a nice hot shower is a great stress buster any time of the day.
Really great ideas and pointers. I need to start a binder of ideas for when I do buy a house.
I would absolutely love to have a whole new bathroom suite, there is so much I think we could do with our bathroom but it just isn’t fully utilised.
Our main bathroom is too small to really chance anything layout wise but it really could use a tear out/rebuild just to make it look nicer and get rid of some of the yuck that has built over the years cleaning isn’t getting rid of. I’ll have to look into how much that would cost as I’m not that handy when it comes to skilled trades type of construction stuff.
Both of mine are actually on the list. I cannot wait to get started!
My bathroom needs a remodel for sure. I just don’t have the time or money.
We just did a remodel last year, so I guess it is much too soon to change things up again. If I would be making any upgrade, it would probably be just adding more shelves for the towels and toilet paper.
I just built my home a few years ago so I’m pretty pleased with my bathroom. I do agree that upgraded bathroom do sell homes and increases their value!!
I am looking to purchase a house this year and so far most places have been removed from my list due to bad bathrooms and kitchens
My bathrooms really need a remodel, one more than the others for sure though… I don’t even know what to do with that one, it’s crazy down there.
We were working on this before we sold our house last year. I love updated looks in my new house.
I really want to dig out my old grout and have it regrouted! I think this is high on my to do list this year!
