For many people living a desk-bound sedentary lifestyle, back problems are simply part of life. It is sad but true that many professionals are assuming that living with back pain is completely normal, and many people don’t realize that they do have the power to do something about it.
The most common cause of back pain is poor posture and most of this comes from sitting in the wrong position for too long. Given that you can’t really do much about how long you need to stay at the computer for, it is important that you seek alternative solutions to help you recover and stay pain-free.
Seek Professional Therapy
If you have been suffering from back pain for any length of time, now is the moment to seek professional help. Therapists such as http://www.ferrellwhited.com/locations/berea/ offer a range of treatment options from manual therapy to relieve muscle tensions and spasms to pain management suitable for all kinds of pain including neck and back.
Seeking treatment doesn’t have to be expensive and you will find that after a few sessions you are feeling a lot better. However, you shouldn’t rely on these therapies alone. Take the opportunity in your new-found pain-free existence to start building your back muscles and getting into better habits.
Walk, Walk, Walk Everywhere
It sounds so simple, and it really is. Walking is the best thing you can do for your back. It will gently stretch out the muscles and ligaments, reducing the pressure you put on your back while you are sitting. It is also free meaning that everyone can and should be walking every single day.
Even people who are in the office for the majority of the day can find 10 or 15 minutes here and there to go for a walk. Try taking your morning and afternoon breaks to amble around the block, for example. Anyone can find this time in their day and it is so effective, you would be daft not to try it.
Stretch and Exercise
There are lots of exercises and stretches you can do to build up the muscles in your back. This is important because with slightly more muscle mass, you will be able to manage your posture much better and hold yourself properly. The better your posture is, the better your back will feel.
Pilates is also great for stretching out your muscles and releasing the tension in your back. Because Pilates is so gentle, anyone can do it and you can take each stretch as far as you like. Make sure that you aren’t tempted to push too far into the pain, though, build up gradually for the best results.
Here is a video you might like to watch to see how this works.
No one should have to live with back pain of any kind and if you are suffering in silence, now is the time to get help and do something about it.

I love this so much! My husband sits all day at work and he always says how sore his back gets. Now I know what to tell him to do to alleviate.
Can’t tell you how important all of these tips are. Getting up and walking and stretching is really key.
I went through this with my husband he suffered until he had surgery. He still stretches out every morning to help with the stiffness.
Great tips. My husbands back is always hurting. He was in a car accident a few years ago.
I’ll show this to my husband. His back hurts a lot. I’m glad mine doesn’t always ache, but I do try to walk a lot.
I agree with stretching and walking. I used to have horrible back pain but after learning a few different stretches and starting to walk more I have not had any more issues. It’s wonderful how much of a difference those two little things can make.
These are all really helpful! It is so cold here that getting outside to walk is not really an option and my back is feeling the effect of it. Once it warms up we can start walking more like we do in spring, summer and fall. Just winter we are stuck inside.
These are such great tips. Have to share these with my hubs. Didn’t realize walking was so helpful! Makes sense.
I love getting couples massages with my husband. My kids always go to my mother in laws house when we go on trips by ourselves.
