How to Create A Game Room The Whole Family Will Love

Do you feel like your family isn’t spending enough time together? One of the best ways to increase family bonding is to create a fun game space for everyone. With an inviting play area, you won’t have to beg your kids to spend time with you. Here’s how to create a game room the whole family will love.

Build an Arcade

When you take your kids to Dave & Buster’s or Chuck E. Cheese, how do they spend their time? They play games, of course! Kids can’t resist the lure of bright lights, music, and other stimulants. They wack moles, play Skee-Ball, and try their hands at ring toss. These are basic carnival games, and you can recreate small versions of them in your home.

Resist the temptation to splurge on something expensive like a pool table. You want interactive games that build a sense of competition without endangering furniture and lamps. A cheap air hockey or foosball table is a better choice. You should also add an HDTV with multiplayer games like the Rock Band and Just Dance franchises. Your family will root for one another while playing against each other, building a stronger bond. Plus, your kids will put down their smartphones and tablets and play a game as a family for a change.

Fun Lighting

Kids love bright, colorful lights. These lights add a sense of whimsy to any space, but particularly a playroom. If you want your kids to hang out more, you need to create a fun environment that makes them feel safe and relaxed.

As you plan your lighting, think back to when you were a kid. You loved bright lights and unusual colors. The same is true of children today, and technology has improved the illumination options. Plenty of high-tech lights exist, and many of them are energy-efficient to boot. Your kids will love the exciting space that personalizes their home and makes it feel especially their own.

Unique Furniture

The next time you’re in a furniture store, pay attention to the kids’ section. You’ll get lots of ideas for your own playroom, even if you don’t buy anything in the store. Kids tend to love branded objects, such as those that feature Disney and Harry Potter characters, sports teams, and video game franchises. They also like asymmetrical designs due to the novelty of such pieces.

When decorating your game room, try to pick items based on branding and style. You also want sofas, tables, and chairs that will take a beating. That’s because your children will bounce around on them while playing in their special fun room. You should also select bright colors that grab the eye for the same reasons as the lighting above. Finally, keep in mind that your furniture should accentuate the fun lighting rather than drown in it.

Nothing brings a family together more than social activities. When you build your game room, consider all the suggestions above. You’ll wind up with a family play area that your kids will adore.

  1. That sounds like a game room my mom would’ve loved to have set up. She really wanted to get us a pool table, and have all the neighborhood kids hang out. The closest we got was having Nintendo in our basement!

  2. We have a game room, but it’s not all that nice. We have a Foozeball table, pinball machine and dart board. I want a pool table someday.

  3. I love the ideas you have here! I think it’s a fun idea to have a game room if you have the extra space to do so. I would love to have the fun lighting in there just because I like different light than normal.

  4. Oh my kids would love something like this! We have a foosball table and a ping pong table but for the most part they have to put up to save space.

  5. I have an entertainment room where we watch movies in and blast music without disturbing the entire neighborhood. I’d love to have a game room, not for me actually but for the kids and grandkids for when they come over to visit

  6. I love your tips on how to create a game room that the whole family will enjoy. We actually have a game room and the kids love it. If you got the space why not right?

  7. It sounds like a really good idea. I want to have one in my house. Right now, our game room is our office where all the computers are 😉
