How to Find the Right Commercial and Residential Painters in Melbourne

Painting is one of those tasks that many people think they can take on by themselves. Whether it’s painting their commercial or residential property, they figure that all that’s required is to slap on a few coats of paint and they’re good to go. However, there are many benefits to hiring a professional painter in Melbourne to get the job done. It not only takes away the stress of having to do the job on your own, but it gives you the peace of mind that the job will be done flawlessly and to your specifications.

Here are a few tips on how to find the right commercial or residential painters Melbourne residents trust for your upcoming project.

  1. Ask around. Word of mouth continues to be one of the most effective ways to find the right painting professional for your job. You can trust referrals from friends, neighbors and acquaintances. Don’t be shy about asking around either. If you see a paint job on a home or office building that you really like, ask the owner or manager who was responsible. If they were happy with the service, they’ll be glad to share with you what they know.
  2. Vet three candidates at the minimum. Once you have a good idea of the contractors you may choose, narrow it down to 3 or 4 who you’ll ask for estimates from. If they did their job right, your estimates should be fairly similar in scope and price range. If you notice a disparity between prices, ask why this is so. For example, if one bidder comes in extremely low, ask what corners are being cut in order to minimize the cost.
  3. Be specific about the project. You’ll want to interview each painting firm. When you do interview them, be sure you’re clear and specific about the project, so that they know how best to explain their services as they pertain to your needs. Be sure to talk about any areas of the project that may affect the price, and discuss which surfaces you want to have painted (walls, trims, moldings, ceilings, etc.) and which colors and finishes you want to have used.

Regardless of whether you’re looking for a commercial or residential painter in Melbourne, you should be certain that the person you hire has plenty of experience, is fairly priced, and is known for not only being professional, but also personable. That’s why so many people trust Hands Free Painting. See what they can do for you by visiting them at

  1. I’m glad we rent right now. Because the thought of owning a home, and hiring so many people to do certain things freak me out. Mainly because I’m so cautious about scammers!!

    1. Yes scammers can be scary. With our home we like to do our research before hiring people and we always make sure we have personal reccomendations.

  2. It never hurts to ask around – the problem is that some people just don’t ask… and regret things later.

  3. Great advice! With home projects, it’s always wise to get multiple quotes and vet them like crazy! The cheapest is often not the best. I personally like personal recommendations best.

  4. Thanks for the good tips! It’s definitely good to ask for referrals, regardless of the task at hand. I find that sometimes, if you get enough referrals for a particular company, the shopping around and getting multiple bids for a project becomes of secondary concern.

  5. I do all of my own painting! I love to paint and have all the tools, including a ladder and a nice drop cloth to keep those spills from splattering onto my hardwood floors. 🙂 I find painting to be relaxing. If I was going to hire someone, I would definitely ask my friends for referrals.

  6. My parents have always done their own painting when they decide to remodel a room/part of the house. I’ve been lucky to see all the do’s and don’t’s firsthand 🙂 In the future, if I needed to hire a painter, I would definitely go by word-of-mouth and online reviews!

  7. Asking around is always top on my list. If I want to save more on a project, I need to get the best possible quote for a job and then I will consider the reputation of work quality next.

  8. Great advice, I thought that doing it myself would be fun and it wasn’t. Halfway i was so over it and it was a pain to finish i wish i would have called someone.

  9. These are great tips indeed for finding a painter. I love to paint my house a couple of years but am now getting older so it is harder to do. It is important to get everything in writing before they start. Thanks for sharing.
