How to Get Rid of Your Negative Thinking in 2018

It’s a clean slate! It’s a new beginning. It’s time to look ahead, make some plans, set some goals, get rid of the negative energy in your life and replace it with positive vibes and thoughts for a wonderful future. Whether you had a great year, or a year you wish you could forget there’s always something to look forward to.

As my last post explained, we’ve had quite the year. I won’t dive into it again, but all of what we experience in life leads you somewhere. Sometimes you are miserable wondering how you are going to get out of the situation you are in. Sometimes those periods of pain and misery lead you to revelations of what a better life looks like. It can help you set expectations and goals for your future. If you’ve been suffering, this is the time to look ahead and figure out what it is you need to do to change your future. You can change your story! You don’t have to live the same ol’ life you’ve been living. You can change you! You might not be able to immediately change your situation. You may have to take baby steps in the direction you want to go, but when you look back you will see your progress.

If you are reading this, I wish you a happy, healthy, vivacious, adventurous and free-spirited new year! Go out there and find your adventure, explore a new career option, move to a place you’ve always wanted to live. Prioritize your to-do list, feel free to say no if you can’t commit to something. It’s okay to change your mind. It’s okay to step into a situation, evaluate it and say “nah, this isn’t for me” and change directions. So many people think they have to stick with the direction their life is going because they can’t change their mind. You can change your mind. You can say I’m done with this year, this day, this month, instead I want to pursue this “other” thing.  It’s your life, only you can live it. Will you possibly disappoint some people with your decision? Oh yeah, it’s possible. Will they get over it? They will if they value you in their life. If they don’t value you, good riddance. Like I said, get rid of that negative energy and keep those positive thinking happy people in your life. People who can see happiness in their situations are keepers. They know there is always something to feel blessed about.

While you have no idea what is ahead for you this year, only you can decide how you will react to it. We can’t always decide our fate on things, but we can be proactive and we can decide what we will let affect us. This is still one of my all-time favorite quotes: “Life is only 10 percent what happens to you. 90 percent of it, is how you react to it.” I love this quote because it calms me down immediately when I’m worked up. I realize that the situation may need some further thought or that there’s a lesson in it, or that I’m being stupid. Sometimes you have to stop yourself in those moments and ask if you are handling it in the best way. Regardless its never too late to change your perspective or change your situation.

Happy New Year!

May 2018 be your best year yet!

    1. So true! ut hopefully we can snap out of it. Obviously, we’ll never always be positive, but we should be able to give each moment its time to feel those things, then we move on from it and think positively and solution oriented.

  1. I think sometimes we all are self distractive and this is a great reminder that we shouldn’t always be as hard on ourselves as we are. I am overall in at the Mystic person but there are times that I get down on myself.

  2. I am trying to reset my thinking a little in 2018 I know it can be quite negative and I feel like it does have an impact on everything I do so this post is a really interesting read and will hopefully bring me some help.

    1. Glad to help Sarah. Remember everything takes baby steps. When you look at the whole picture it can be overwhelming. You see change in processes, not instantly so give yourself grace. Love yourself more and make little changes to positive thinking. Maybe keep a gratitude notebook.

  3. No negative thinking here. Positive vibes only. I love that you mention “baby steps”. Everything doesn’t happen instantaneously, things happen gradually. Here’s wishing you a year full of wonder. Happy new year!

  4. It can be tough when you get stuck in a rut of negative thinking. I’ve been there where times were so bad, and it felt like things would never get better, or that the world was just an awful place. It truly does help to spread positivity too!

  5. It is a clean slate which is always a good thing. We have made some plans for 2018 but we know new adventures, twist and turns will happen. Bring on the happy, sad, surprise and whatever else happens.

  6. Yes the start of a new year is always to get rid of negativity accumulated over the year and start with a positive note. The only way to cleanse oneself of negativity is to fill the mind with positive thoughts.

  7. Thank you for this! I get so worried and freaked out sometimes (anxiety) and I have decided to take each day one day at a time and to start 2018 with a positive frame of mind!!

  8. I’ve always told people that others can’t make you feel something. You have to allow yourself to feel that way. It’s all in how you react to situations and people. Of course, some people just make me react in a not nice way. This is a good reminder to be mindful and positive!

  9. I’ve earned so much on this post on dealing not only the negative thoughts but also negative people as well. It’s been long year I struggle with this negativity its about time to let go and make changes on my life. Stress free for 2018!

    1. Yes, I think a lot of people hold on the negative people in their lives out of guilt. Unfortunately, we can’t just let our family members go, but friends that take our energy and don’t feed it, you can decide if you have time for that or not! 😉

  10. I can totally relate to this post. I’m so looking forward to a much more positive 2018, at least once my kids and I kick our colds and can actually venture outside again! We are going stir crazy over here.

  11. This was great! Our thinking really does affect so much of our lives. If we can just change this one thing, the outcomes of our efforts will change dramatically. Thank you for this timely reminder!

    1. Your welcome! I think negative things just around us in the background can really affect our thinking. Of course, I do a lot of praying, and you can’t always get rid of negativity and there are times it just hits your family and you need to help, but for things that are out of your control, get rid of it.

  12. I work hard on getting rid of my “stinking thinking” It is not always easy and I have to realize at the time what I am thinking and change my thoughts. I am so thankful I have God in my life. This really helps. Thank you so much for sharing this great article
