Almost this time last year when we went to Hunky Hubs Company picnic J Myster wasn’t even crawling yet. This Company Picnic was on my birthday last year, this year they pushed it to September and decided to do it in Sedona. So while I’ve talked about the drive down to Sedona being a lovely drive, this time we were behind a tourist on the switchbacks going a lovely 23 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone. This is where patients really is the sour parts of our personality. The whole way down we were joking and having fun about it. This person would arbitrarily break for no reason. They weren’t going around a bend and there weren’t other cars in front of them for a reason to break…they would just break, and since they were only doing 23 miles per hour a huge line of cars starting piling up behind this said car. I counted back to see at least 12 cars creeping along behind us. The Sedona Tour bus was going faster and had rolled out of sight, but this white camero was apparently marveling at every rock and tree…
Yes we are fond of nature, and yes the switchbacks are beautiful and we get that people want to take pictures. If you like taking pictures, pull off on the side of the road, the 18 people behind you will be very happy you did so. Instead of holding us up and making a half hour trip down to Sedona an hour trip. It finally dawns on us that we, while leaving on time for the picnic will be late for all the giveaways and raffle tickets. So we politely give our horn a little tap and nothing happens. We do this several times just hoping they would pick up speed enough to do the speed limit, but to no prevail.
Anyway, on to our trip. Little J Myster was awesome the whole way down there. He didn’t even have a snack or sippy cup on the way down like we usually do with road trips. He was good, quietly looking out the window and from time to time he would giggle, we’d look back and he’d just smile at us.
So we get there and there isn’t a bit of shade since it was straight up noon, I lather J up in sunblock and thankfully he didn’t come back home with a burn. The picture on the left is later in the afternoon when we finally got shade. We spent much of the time on the grass trying to keep J from walking over and stealing people’s drinks who had blankets sprawled out. We did give him a can of soda to play with. He spent a good while putting it up to his mouth and going “mmmmm” pretending he was drinking it. It was pretty funny.
Then we just hung out in the grass some more, let J play on the jungle gym and then we waited forever it seemed for the raffle to start. Of course we didn’t win anything….and J was getting fussy, it was 2 hours passed his nap time so we knew he would be out the whole trip back up the hill….and thankfully going back up we didn’t get stuck behind great grandma….but then again, we weren’t in a hurry that time….that’s murphey’s law for ya.
P.S. I just did my first review and giveaway over the weekend and it has low entries. If you love entering giveaways, you should really do this one, the chances of winning are pretty good right now. And if you love coffee, then its a must. Check it out here. 🙂
