Illness and Motivation…Or The Lack There Of

What a 2016 it’s been…and not necessarily in a good way. Actually, the last three months for me have been a bit depressing health wise. I didn’t blog about it because really who wants to read about how sick someone’s been…but in November I got something like the flu…in December (at least it was before Christmas) I got something like the flu….then in January….well let’s see, I got something like the flu. How you can have the flu three months in a row I don’t know…but I can tell you that my body seems to hate me and it has played a mental toll as well…its almost been depressing. Today I’m dealing with the tail end of whatever virus we had.  My husband had it first (on his birthday no less). It started off with high-grade fevers, days in bed, days where I was so nauseated I couldn’t eat anything. (I’ve lost some weight) and now its days where it feels like an intense cold and headaches. I’m really over it.

I haven’t had coffee in a week. One whole week people! For a coffee drinker, that’s hard! But when I’m sick, I don’t drink it because it’s so easy to be dehydrated when you are sick, and coffee dehydrates you and I’m sure I’m a bit dehydrated right now.

Anyway…all this illness has had an effect on embracing 2016 and all it has to offer. I’m not very excited about the year so far and my motivation is nowhere to be found. The ship has sailed, it’s in Fuji.

I want to find it though because daily routines have gone out the window and I’m sure getting back into a daily routine will make me feel better to some extent.

Have you ever been sick as often as I have?

3 times in 3 months seems a bit much to me.

  1. It seems like everytime I get a vacation from work I get really sick. So, I hear you. Life is not fun when you feel terrible. Get some rest. Maybe call a doctor?

  2. That was me last year. I was sick basically all winter. As soon as I would shake whatever it was that I had, I was sick with something else.

  3. Oh dear, that is such a hassle. No one likes to be sick. Must be the weather, right? You need to take more liquids and Vitamin C. Lemon-infused water also helps. I do that all the time when I have the flu.

  4. I kind of know what you are going through. Last year I caught a cold, the flu, bronchitis, then double pneumonia. I was sick the entire winter. It was the first and only year I messed around and didn’t get a foul shot. I was one of the firsts to get on this year.

    1. That sounds horrible Terri. I’m finally on the mend with antibiotics. And I really do think after talking to others that I’m going to dapple in taking a daily probiotic.

  5. I’ve been lucky that I haven’t been sick for awhile (knock on wood!), but I completely understand the lack of motivation and ability to get anything done when you’re sick. Here’s hoping you’re back up and running soon!

  6. Being mom and getting sick is pretty much tragic for my household. My hubby isn’t so helpful so there isn’t much rest for me and often times I’m sick for longer than needed.

  7. Sorry to hear you have been sick so much. It is really frustrating when you can’t stick to your daily routine. I was like that before I started getting allergy shots. It maybe something you can look into. Hope you feel better.

    1. Allergy shots sounds like something that I might eventually need to do. I’m currently on antibiotics, when I finish those, my doctor has given me a a few things to try to combat the allergies I suffer with.

  8. Yeah, I think I got sick 5 times a month and it’s really worst. Illness makes me feel alone and careless, but I’m glad that my wife is always at my side. Hope you feel better now Heather.

  9. My daughter sure has! We started the week with the stomach flu promptly followed by an upper respiratory tract infection, viral pink eye (and there is NO treatment for that one) and an ear infection in both ears. It was HELL! Then the man cub got it…he ended up with the stomach flu and strep throat. UGH!!

    1. My husband just came down with strep throat a week after being sick with the flu. I couldn’t believe it. I wanted to quarintine him because I was still getting over the flu and I’m still on antibiotics from it. He seems to be doing better now that the doctor gave him a zpack. The doctor said he was a prime candidate for getting strep because of his weakened immune system. Now I’m looking into probiotics.

  10. Yikes 3 months in a row?! That’s really awful! The only time I’ve ever been sick for a long period of time is when I was pregnant with my daughter but not sure that counts but I was pretty miserable! Hope you feel much better soon! I hate being sick!

  11. Goodness! That does seem like a little much to be sick. You might want to try and boost your immunity more. I notice that there are quite a few posts out right now about surviving the cold and flu months that we are currently in. It is definitely not a fun thing. I wish you all the best in regaining and preserving your good health!

  12. I am so sorry to hear about you being sick so much. I have not gotten sick in 3 years. No colds not flu. Did you get a flu shot? Were you fatigued before you got sick? I hope you getting sick is over!! Spring is right around the corner and the flu and cold season will be leaving.

  13. I always get a flu’ jab but still got a fever in early January, that was followed by 2 bouts of cold sores (never had them before). I’ve been working on building up my immune system since then! Plenty of fresh air, healthy food, sleep & hydration.

  14. I don’t know if it’s just me or if perhaps everybody
else encountering problems with your blog.
It appears as though some of the written text on your posts are running off the screen. Can someone else please provide
feedback and let me know if this is happening to them as well?
This could be a issue with my web browser because I’ve
    had this happen previously. Thanks
