J Myster Turns Five!

This weekend we celebrated my oldest son’s birthday! He turned five and unlike past birthdays, this was the first birthday “party” where he was able to invite 4 of his best buds. In my town, March tends to be too cold to hold a birthday party outdoors, so we had to find a place to host it inside and I didn’t want to do it at home.

Now that JJ has a lot more friends, indoor birthday parties tend to get crowded fast! A friend of mine hosted a birthday party for her daughter back in November. It was snowing and she had probably 50 moms, dads and kids in her house. I remember the pile of jackets, coats, boots, mittens and beanies by her front door and trying to find everyone’s things to leave. She was a brave brave woman. Past birthday parties, we only had family over and maybe one of JJ’s friend’s. But JJ turing five was a big one for him, so I wanted him to be able to celebrate with his “best friends”. We decided Peter Piper Pizza was a good venue for the kids. They got game tokens, JJ was able to make his own pizza, and we got two trays of pizza to share between six kids and 8 adults. It was one of the cheaper options for hosting an indoor birthday party in Flagstaff and the kids really did have a blast.

This was his cake this year:

He’s been so into Super Heroes over the last six months I was so sure he was going to choose a Spiderman or Ninja Turtle cake, but after flipping thru the cake book at Safeway, he chose this lovely Planes Cake. I love Safeway cakes, they are so delicious and just cute!

Opening presents after games, pizza and cake!
Mr. B enjoying pizza with Daddy!
Back at home opening up more gifts from the family.
One spoiled little dude I tell ya!
And I just have to share this cute moment on the morning JJ turned five, he crawled into my bed and said “mommy, I have to look in the mirror!” I said “why?” He said, “because I’m five now and I’m gonna look different”. So when we got up, I got the stool out for him to see himself in the bathroom mirror and I told him I was so sure he looked more five today than he did yesterday. I just love the way kids think!
