Lisa Rollins Public Rant About Breastfeeding

CrystalCove

First off, I just want to say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and people have the right to not like seeing a woman breastfeeding their child in public. Its ok. No one is asking you to like it, but no one is asking you to look either.

Lisa Rollins a Radio Talk Show Host in North Carolina has a talk segment. (transcript of show) During this segment she talks about eating at a Chic-Fil-A restaurant where a woman was discreetly breastfeeding her child. In her banter she does say that the woman was covered, but insisted that women who “breastfeed” do not have a right to breastfeed in a public place, that they should use a bathroom stall, they should do it while driving, or sit in their car to breastfeed their child. (Yes she said while driving!) At first I thought ok, so she was uncomfortable. Fine she has a right to feel that way. But when she started saying that there should be breastfeeding laws. That is when my blood started to boil. To take away a woman’s right to breastfeed their child is not only going against the very thing that God has designed all women to do, but degrading a woman’s breasts to mere sexual objects, not something that nourishes a baby.

In America we have so sensationalized breasts. They are considered a woman’s sexual entity. They are judged on their size or shape instead of how they feed their baby. This isn’t so much the case in the rest of the world. Mammals were meant to breastfeed, and we are mammals and just because man has made a “formula” that is supposed to be similar to breast milk, does not mean that formula is right for every baby and that it is right to look down upon a woman who chooses to breastfeed. I feel that a lot of woman are discouraged about breastfeeding or they have a lack of information at how nutritious and life saving breastfeeding can be due to women like Lisa Rollins who publicly degrade a woman who was properly covered.

A breastfed baby is 30 percent less likely to get sick within the first year. I say this not being able to sight my facts, but I did read it on an online medical journal somewhere. Breastfeeding can provide immunity to the child. Breastfeeding is good for the mother. Many women breastfeed to loose the pregnancy weight. How awesome is it that God designed women to not only feed their child, but to help them loose pregnancy pounds after birth. Kinda cool. I feel that a lot of formula feeding mothers just were not given this information. I do not look down upon formula feeding parents. They have their reasons for doing so and its fine and no one should degrade a person who decides to formula feed. My true thoughts on this is weather its breast or bottle just feed your child when he/she is hungry. And to say that a breastfeeding woman can not do this, is harmful to the baby. To deny a child the right to eat simply because it might make someone else uncomfortable is wrong. Now I think all breastfeeding mothers should have the proper cover up. They make awesome things now days that help mothers be discreet. I had a nursing cover I had with me in J’s diaper bag at all times in case I needed to nurse. I’ve nursed at a football game, nursed at many restaurants, nursed in the park, I’ve nursed everywhere and I’ve always tried to make sure that I was discreet.

Here is some food for thought:

NO MAN CAN IMPROVE ON WHAT GOD HAS DESIGNED.

  1. I just changed my blog post so that it’s not linking to her show. So we don’t drive traffic to her advertisers over this crap. She’s an idiot.
