Ok, so I can’t believe that its the end of August and my birthday was at the beginning of August and I’ve failed to blog about what I got for my birthday! First off, my husband is great! He’s awesome, he’s amazing. He never fails at predicting my needs and wants, even if I don’t voice them. Frankly, he’s the best gift giver I’ve ever met. The best part about him, is he picks up on things you say. There’s no need to tell him what you want or what you’ve been eyeing he knows and suddenly, you have it.
So we had some friends up visiting about a week before my birthday making a cross-country trip in an RV and Rich had this awesome camera. I asked to see it and was mesmerized by it. I, of course, have wanted a high-resolution camera since my oldest was in diapers, but I’ve managed to take some pretty awesome photos I’m proud of with just my iPhone camera.
Like this one for instance that I turned into a canvas and hung on our wall.
Pretty good, for a smart phone right?
And this photo I took with a Kodak 32 mm camera:
So I feel like I kinda have an eye for photography, but always knew I needed the right tools to make it even more awesome.
Well, I finally have the right tool!
My hubby picked up on the fact that I’ve wanted a high-resolution camera and got me a beautiful Nikon D3100!
As soon as I pulled the wrapping paper off and saw the words “Nikon”, I was screaming like a little girl!!
I both wanted to wring my husband’s neck for spending that kind of money, and jump in his lap, showering him with kisses.
He decided to give me my birthday presents a view days early because my oldest started Kindergarten this year and he knew I would want to take pictures.
Here’s one of the first ones I took before I even read any directions:
So what have I been doing? I’ve been studying up how to use it. I’ve read the manual from front to back. I’ve taken it outside and took 500 pictures messing with manual focus and filters and I am simply amazed at the picture quality I’ve found.
This photo, for instance, being able to see the water droplets spraying out from the sprinkler, is awesome!
…and this up close picture of a flower growing in my garden really makes these colors come to life!
This is in a garden bed in my front yard. I guess I am essentially showing off my camera and my garden today! 😉
With the below shot, I took it the morning after Hunky Hubs gave it to me. There is a setting on the camera where you can take a continuous series of photos in milliseconds and this was one of those series of shots while I was trying to get Mr. B to smile.
I love the detail in this photo and that it makes my indoor shots look great, even with a flash!
I’m also trying to play with focus and take it off “auto”. This is what my dinning room table looks like with two children from one day to the next.
I’m sure I will use this photo in a future blog post for something. 😉
Right now I can’t wait to find a good camera bag. I saw an awesome vintage style bag on Amazon that I’ve put on my wish list for now.
I really can’t wait to take this camera out and shoot photos around Northern Arizona!
Thank you Hunky Hubs for this amazing gift! Also, thank you for my floor Mint Cleaner! I love that thing too AND I LOVE YOU!
