Rifle Falls

On Friday my husband came home excited after work to hop in the truck and visit a place called Rifle Falls. After a week of getting settled into a place we are renting for 5 to 6 months until our home is built, we needed the family time and the chance to explore our new state.

( I love that we have a sunroof that can open.)

I am also excited that we got a state park pass that lets us visit 42 state parks! We’ve got a lot of exploring to do! Rifle Falls is located north of the town of Rifle Colorado surrounded by the most beautiful farmland and country roads I’ve ever seen. I keep imagining these roads in the fall and I just know with how green everything is, it will be simply beautiful!

This place has three main waterfalls that freeze over in the winter. Rock climbers love to climb the frozen waterfalls. There are so many integrated trails and caves that surround the falls with park benches or picnic tables everywhere. I can see the family and I coming here on a regular basis to do some hiking or have picnics.

I let my eight year old take a photo of Scott and I and it came out a little blurry, but I’ve spent a lot of our time together capturing images of just the kids, or Scott with the kids. It’s nice to be in a picture occasionally, even if it’s blurry. 🙂

The kids had a blast checking out all the little caves along the falls and Braidy had to pick up a walking stick because he’s now a “mountain man”.

Getting ready to check out one of the caves.

This cave was quite spacious.

Braidy the mountain man.

This is just one place I can’t wait to show people when they visit us here.  Where have you seen waterfalls like this?

  1. YAY!! Getting acclimated to the new area can be tough but you’re certainly making the best of it. I remember growing up in the mountains, I think it really shapes who people are, so I think your boys are going to love it and also grow up to be awesome guys! 🙂

  2. I’ve never seen a waterfall like this in person…I’ve seen Niagara Falls, and a few others but these come out of the rock type falls just look so beautiful to me! Can’t wait to see what other parks you guys make it to!

  3. I wish I lived near here and take my daughter to check these out. The waterfalls may look small but they are fantastic in its own speical way.

  4. How pretty! We love Colorado and it sounds like you guys are getting settled in. We have some pretty waterfalls up here in New England, but I think the best ones we’ve seen have been in Hawaii and Indonesia 🙂

  5. Rifle Falls looks like a beautiful place. I would love to get a state park pass that lets us visit some of the state parks as we travel this Summer

  6. This looks like a great place for any family to visit. I lvoe waterfalls, we have a few falls not far from us here in Michigan. I try to go every year.

  7. We have a lot of water falls here and mostly comes with a tough mountain trek. This one is really accessible and scenic and looks like everybody enjoyed the visit.

  8. What an absolutely gorgeous place to explore! I am a mom of boys so I am always looking for fun ways for my boys to be outside and enjoy all that nature has to offer. We will put Rifle Falls on our radar!

  9. I do that all too often with pictures as well. I’m usually the one behind the camera and not in front so I miss out on photos a lot.

  10. The waterfalls, though not huge as just as stunning as the bigger waterfalls. I love your family adventure. Takes me back to the time when my own kids were still little.
