Second Grade, Here JJ Comes!

A few nights ago my awesome friends took me out to Grimaldi’s, a nice pizza restaurant, for my birthday. This year, turning 35 has been pretty awesome. Let’s see, things to be thankful for and that totally count toward my birthday…hmm…new house….new washer and dryer….new couches. I mean really its been quite the last two months. In addition to that, I had friends surprise me with a birthday cake on Monday at play group, my friend Liz got me some bath stuff, my friend Kelly got me more flowers and a Starbucks gift card, my MIL did also….I’ve been so remembered this year as opposed to other years when the day just passed by. Also as always, I usually demand a cook free evening. So Hunky Hubs and I ordered in and I treated myself to sushi on my “actual” birthday. The only thing I didn’t get was my free birthday Starbucks coffee…I missed it by a day! Go figure! But I have gift cards to redeem, so there!

Happy Birthday to Me!
Happy Birthday to Me!

Anyway, on to the real reason for this post.  My first born son started second grade yesterday. I was able to make it home in enough time to tuck him into bed for his first day and make his lunch, so I didn’t have much mommy guilt. However we did loose the backpack and some of the school supplies in it on his meet and greet with his teacher, so last night I had to run out and grab something cheap at Walmart to make do…then I surprisingly got a phone call from someone who found his backpack. Thank goodness we labeled it! So even though I had to buy a new one, he gets to get his old one back and take the one “he” wants to school.

Anyway, we woke up and without fuss, got ready for school and took the trending “First Day of School” pictures.

We started off with the above picture. Then I like to get a sibling in there just for logging both kids’ ages at the start of a new school year. So we got the little brother in there.

Little brother was sad to not be holding a sign. So we made him a sign.

…and we did it inside so we didn’t have squinty eyes from the bright morning sun.

We parked at my friend’s house and walked with a group of friends down to the school. Which I think helped ease some of JJ’s first day at a new school nerves. I also love his teacher’s Dr. Suess themed room. It was so cute!!!

  1. It is a smart practice to label the kids’ school supplies just for this reason! I’m glad he got his backpack back! I don’t see any where in your article when your actual birthday is, because mine was July 31st. I turned 60. I too was surprised by my friends & family!! They said turning 60 was too important not to do anything. I want to wish you a Happy Birthday- a little late! ???

  2. School started just yesterday in our neighborhood. Our little ones aren’t quite ready for school yet, but I’m both looking forward to and nervous about the first intro to school !
