Setting The Right Atmosphere When You Are Entertaining

When it comes to throwing a memorable party, preparation is key. Your guests will remember the great food you serve, the festive decorations and the jammin music, but only if you plan well and prepare for the little snags that often accompany social events. By planning ahead, you can create an event that is not soon forgotten.

One of the biggest logistical challenges of any event is making sure there is enough food to go around. The first step is to get an accurate count of everyone who will attend. Plan to have more food than you need, as some guests may unexpectedly bring guests of their own. Take into account any food allergies or other dietary restrictions.

Planning your bar is a fun part of the process. Have a stock of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Beer, wine and soft drinks are staples of a well-stocked party bar. Be sure to provide enough water for each of your guests as well. Provide more water and ice if your party will take place outside. You will need mixers for alcohol, drinkware, ice and straws.

It is fun to have a theme when planning your event, so creating the right atmosphere is a vital part of the process. If you are planning a football party, make football themed snacks, wear football jerseys and decorate in team colors. For a more formal event, dazzle your guests with dramatic lighting, decorative centerpieces and floral arrangements. If you are planning an outdoor party, you may need fewer decorations as the natural scenery can serve as your backdrop.

A party just isn’t a party without great music. Choose a variety of tunes that you know your guests will enjoy. Take requests in advance and make sure you play everyone’s favorites. Hiring a disc jockey or a band is a simple way to provide music without having to take on the extra task yourself. Better yet, get a music player and let your guests simply select their music during the course of the party.

When it comes to throwing the perfect event that will get people talking, preparation is key. Plan the perfect menu to tempt your guests’ tastebuds, decorate your venue in festive colors and themes and pick the right tunes to get everyone up and dancing. By planning ahead, you can throw a party that your guests won’t soon forget.

  1. Great tips. My friends and I hold an annual post-Christmas potluck party. We’ve had themes that range from winter wonderland (in a tropical country!) to Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies, and UN Assembly. It’s always great fun!

  2. Thanks for these tips. We are in the process of planning the annual Christmas party at the office and these tips would come in handy. Last year, we almost ran out of food because we had to use most of our funds to pay for a function room at a swanky hotel. Not this year! Food is more important!

  3. Great tips to get the party going and keep it moving. We have found that hiring a local band is a lot more affordable than one might think! It’s a great mood setter and really keeps people engaged.

  4. Thank you for the tips! I pay a lot of attention to the food and decor, but I tend to forget about actually planning anything for music but I guess it’s kind of important.

  5. Great tips overall! We’re not much of entertainers at the house, but I’ve always wanted to host a non-family get-together and get really creative with the food. I also wanted to make party favor bags for guests.
