The Bible Mini Series

Have you watched the Bible series on the history channel? Hunky Hubs and I have been captivated by this 10 episode mini series. We started watching it, but quickly realized it was something we had to watch while the kids were sleeping because of the violence, so it’s definitely not family friends, or at least not for young kids.

Putting that aside, I am so incredibly impressed with the depiction of Jesus and the disciples and even a lot of the other historic people depicted from the bible. The actor they got to play Jesus, couldn’t have been more spot on. All of the mental images I’ve had of Jesus from either illustrations or paintings has given me a very specific image of him, that I always think of when I close my eyes and pray. I’ve seen Jesus played by actors that just don’t quite fit. But seeing this man, riding into the village on a donkey followed by his disciples, needs no explanation at all.

I also feel the actor himself, thoroughly  researched his roll, because I feel he showed Jesus’s love and kindness throughout the whole series above all else and I think a lot of Christians sometimes forget how forgiving he was. As Jesus hung on the cross dying he says “Lord forgive them, for they know not what they do”.  He had so much compassion, even for people that didn’t know him, and for the people trying to kill him. I love that they should Jesus smiling and touching the hand of the man who helped Jesus carry his cross up the hill, a lot of that can just be missed in the story telling of Jesus’s last days, and the very human side of us can’t fathom that he’d spare a smile to the man who helped him carry his cross in the midst of so much pain and anguish.  I sat there during those last scenes and cried.  But I felt my faith once again renewed.

Did you watch The Bible Series? What did you think? Did the History Channel accurately portray Jesus’s story?
