The School Year is Coming to an End

This last week we managed to roll all the seasons into Colorado! We started off the week with about an inch of snow on the ground. Tuesday was much like Monday with more snow on and off. Today though this beautiful Sunday morning the temperatures are in the 70’s and this heart is grateful for that! I saw this funny meme that pretty much sums up Colorado weather for you, especially in April and May. It can be so unpredictable!

It’s nearing the end of the school year and what a year it has been! I’ve been doing all the mom things and all the PTO things and knowing there are only two more weeks of school left for the boys has me wondering how I’m going to entertain them all summer. We’ve managed to have fun summers in the past, so I know it will be eventful this summer as well. We’ll fit in swimming and picnics in the park as usual, we’ve already got camping trips planned and booked throughout the summer in our RV and we’ll plan some exploratory hikes or day trips out to places we’ve yet to discover here in CO, or maybe learned about last year but never had time to visit. Summertime truly is my favorite time of the year. I’m a warm weather girl and love to be outside despite my allergies.

The latest addition to the family. I think we’ll need to name it soon!

Since we took the above picture with the RV, our grass has turned green! It looks so much better!

At the end of this week, we will be taking the RV out for the first of a few summer excursions. I cannot tell you how happy I am to be doing our camping in an RV instead of a tent! Our very last tent camping experience was a nightmare. A storm had rolled through and the tent was leaking water all over our sleeping bags. Not only that, my husband’s back isn’t what it used to be. Setting up a tent can really be hard on one’s back, not to mention exhausting. Tent camping takes all the relaxation of out it. So I guess you can call us glampers because we like all the amenities of home, but as close to nature as possible. I think the RV was a great family investment and will really make our camping experiences that much more enjoyable. We took the RV out for a test camping experience in March before de-winterized it, and we are already feeling blessed to not have to set up a tent even though we didn’t have a toilet to use or running water yet. Even with the lack of those amenities, we could sleep in actual beds, and had the insulation of four walls, electricity for lights and heat, which made it pretty awesome if you ask me. This time when we take it out, we’ll actually have running water and we’ll be able to use the toilet and shower if we need to.

We are pulling the kids out of school early on Friday and taking them to Jackson Lake east of Greeley and spending three days there away lakeside enjoying some of the more simple things in life. I’m sure there will be a blog post to highlight our adventure.

What are your summer plans?

Are you dreading the summer months, or looking forward to them?

  1. I am so jealous I have been wanting to try an RV for so long. I still have over a month before my kids are done thank goodness.

  2. Enjoy your RV!! I’m on the East Coast so I’m headed up to Cape Cod to visit family once school is out. But later in the summer, I’m headed out West to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Zion, Bryce, etc. Taking my sight-seeing!

  3. A RV trip sounds like a blast! I’m sure you guys will have so much fun on your adventures.

School ends here early next month and weirdly these teachers are still assigning projects, ugh.

  4. Exploring with my family in an RV would be such an amazing experience! It’s also a great way to reconnect after a busy school year. We have a trip to Italy planned this summer and I could not be more excited.

  5. So fun that school will be out soon and you can go RV camping. We used to RV camp with my family/

  6. Yah, that school is finally out. We did the RV travel when I was growing up. It’s a great way for the family to see so many places and have great bonding time. Be prepared for -she’s looking at me, he’s making me crazy. But it’s all good fun.

  7. Yes school is going ot end soon with in two weeks. Love those RV . We haven’t done any RV trip. May be in future. This summer we will planning some trips

  8. It would be amazing to have a summer trip in an RV! It’s summer here and we’ve had a great vacation on a beach.

  9. I always look forward to the summer months. We always make a trip somewhere during the summer but we haven’t decided yet where to go this year. Have fun on your trip!

  10. Summer time is family time! The kids are home, the grill is out, and the cold drinks are bottomless! We might be going to my cousin’s place next week. It will be our meeting point for a family beach trip. When I say “family” I mean about 35 people. Haha. I have a huge extended family!

  11. Summer time is so much fun! We have so many fun plans for the summer, can’t wait to make it all happen.

  12. I always love summer because it means my kids were home! We mostly go camping for our vacations, but I’d love to have an RV option. A wet tent is pretty miserable.

  13. Summer time is always family time! Beach trips, water parks, weekend BBQs! I wish this year we could travel farther, like overseas perhaps? Why not.

  14. A family vacation start of the summer is always good. I remember as a child looking forward to the end of the school year to be able to go on a family vacation.
