I’ve wanted to add a back splash to our kitchen since we moved in back in 2012 and we finally did it! I’m so excited to show you some kitchen transition pictures of all its stages from when we moved in, until now. And one of my choices…which turned out pretty ugly, I’m glad I finally re-did! Sometimes the vision you have for a space in your home doesn’t necessarily transpire when you go to implement it. That was the case when my husband started painting the kitchen a green color for me about a year after we moved in. That leafy green bright and airy kitchen I imagined from a magazine image I looked at didn’t transpire. Mainly I need white cabinets for that to work and I didn’t have white cabinets and second the green I chose looked more neon green than I had hoped for. I decided after a while it was not what I wanted. But my husband went to all the work to paint it for me. I felt bad and left it that way until the next summer when I chose a nice gray color that currently compliments our back splash. It was such a wonderful choice!
When we moved in the kitchen was painted a tan color. It wasn’t a bad color, but this color was what everything in the house was painted in every single room. It was a bit much. Maybe that’s why I chose such an obnoxious green. I guess I just wanted something a little more bold and different.
Like I had said, this is what the kitchen looked like before we moved in. It really wasn’t a bad color.
Then I did this:
Now I know it doesn’t look horrible from this picture, but it’s actually really really green. Like too green. I grew to hate it, but kept it long enough to make sure my husband didn’t feel too bad for the hard work he put into painting it.
Now I can’t remember taking a picture of it when I painted it gray, but here’s my boys doing the dishes back over the holidays with it gray.
I think the gray and the cabinets look amazing and now here is a picture of the kitchen with the back splash added.
I think it adds a whole new modern feel to the kitchen it didn’t have before. I’ve always loved my kitchen’s spacious counter space and ease of moving around and now its like a dream kitchen!
Now I just need to get my top oven to start working again and then it will pretty much be perfect!
What would your dream kitchen look like?
