I am sitting here thinking about so much. There are times in our lives when we have to weather storms. When we have to batten down the hatches, ride out the waves, continue to look onward and upward, even though turmoil is going on all around us. There are times when we feel like we are losing the war. We may lose battles, but the war…you only lose the war if you give up on life.
We sometimes fail to see that there is an end to the storm. The storm runs out of rain, runs out of momentum, runs out of wind and dies down. The storm does not weather on forever. We fail to see that this is merely a period in time. That even if we feel like we can’t endure any more, that growth happens from turmoil. Lessons are learned from failure, failure doesn’t mean the end, or to stop trying. Failure simply means, you’ve tried that route, now choose another.
We often feel like we are in a fog and can’t think enough to see the way out. We think it’s a dead-end, it’s rock bottom and there’s no rope. Often times we can’t see the rope in the middle of the fog, we can’t see the help right in front of our faces. Sometimes we are so set on believing things can’t get better, that everyone is out to get you, hurt you etc and our attitudes keep us from looking up to see our rescue.
I also think this is true. The beginning of my life hasn’t been that easy for me. Foster homes, molestation, parents who abandoned me during times of need, thoughts of suicide, and yet without all that, I wouldn’t appreciate what I have today truly as much as if I hadn’t been through those things. Sometimes living sucks…sometimes waking up to your reality sucks, but if you have a will power and a drive to change it, you can get through it.
If you want change in your life, you have to create it. You have to stop looking back at your own life and wondering why and how you got there and analyzing it to pieces. Doing that in no way propels you forward, it keeps you right where you are at. How can you get out of your current mindset unless you tell yourself you don’t want to live this way anymore?! It starts with you, no matter what your circumstances are and I know that mine are not even close to being truly horrible. All I have to do is turn on CNN and see all the things ISIS has done to humanity and know that I am in no way suffering. I am blessed and if you can look at that and see the suffering and then look at your own life and see its blessings and what you have to be thankful for, you have so much more than a lot of other people out there.
Don’t be afraid or scared of the hill, the terrain, the rough seas, the miles….enjoy the journey look through the darkness to see the light, take a deep breath and instead of measuring the distance, simply be in the presence. Trudge forward and before you know it, you’ll be on safer ground, you’ll make it to the finish line or reach the top and then you can look down and see the view. See the turns and dips and the difficult parts of the road and know that you made it through only because you kept trudging forward.
