When Summer Break Is Almost Over…

I’m laying here in my hammock looking out at my kids sitting on their back yard picnic table. Their bikes are together in the yard and they’ve had such a fun summer of picnics, swimming, playing with neighborhood kids and play group friends, and at least one out-of-town trip. The summer though is winding down…maybe its only July, but my son starts first grade in less than a week.

Today we walked to his school to see what class he’s in. He was hoping he’d have his best friends in the same class with him, but one of his buds ended up in another class. He was sad about it but he knows he’ll get to see him on the playground and at lunch time.  We stopped by the playground to get Jaydon a little more excited about returning to school and to have a little snack and rest before walking back home.

Jaydon had fun remembering things from the last school year and I think the excitement started to build.

He would be a big first grader now!

So I’ve begun the back to school shopping. We got him a new backpack, a new lunch box that works with his lunch blox, because I just love packing him a bento style lunch 😉 and I’ve got labels on their way for all the things I’m gonna have to label from kidecals. I totally recommend them for all your labeling needs.

But just as fast as the summer started, it seems to be almost over.

Goodbye summer picnics at Concerts in the park.

They will be missed.

I will soon be packing school lunches, sitting at the dinning room table helping with homework, attending school field trips and so much more…..so for now I’ll enjoy the last few lazy days of summer. But when you’re a mom, are there really any lazy days?!

  1. It looks like you picked up some awesome back to school clothes, the boys will be dressed to impress 🙂 And I am a total label-junkie as well. I like to label everything!!

  2. Hard to imagine school is starting that soon for your children. Schools don’t start here till after Labor Day-early September! I am sure he will enjoy making new friends and keeping up with the old ones as well.

  3. Uggh…back to school. We don’t go back for a couple more weeks toward the end of August, but I definitely need to get in gear and do my school shopping. These decals look great for the lower grade kids!

  4. No, stop! Don’t say it! Summer is not almost over! Well I can hope, right? It sounds like your boys have been having a great summer, and at least they aren’t dreading going back to school and can think back on last year and the fun they had.

    1. I know I know! Its crazy how short they seem now. When I was a kid it was three months off, now its like 8 weeks off, and yes they had a pretty good summer I’d say.

  5. We don’t go back for a month, so we are just trying to enjoy the rest of the summer as much as possible.

    1. I would be totally enjoying it while it lasts! Right now my son is bringing homework home every night, gone are the days of swimming and playing outside til dusk.

    1. I think “nothing” sounds awesome!! Sometimes we get too busy, even our kids! I think being bored and having nothing to do for awhile is healthy for the mind.

    1. Enjoy these days…soon you wont be able to rangle them in for cuddle time anymore. It will be off with friends and after school activities. I still love having my three year old home with me.

  6. What lovely kids you have. Nice choice of clothing. Well it looks like they really enjoyed their summer. You’re right there ain’t really a lazy days for a loving mother.

  7. I am going to be the odd one out but I am so glad summer is almost over but I live in Phoenix and it’s miserable. Come on fall! LOL I love the photos and recap of summer loving! Your kiddos are adorable!

  8. It is crazy to me that summer is almost over!!!! My daughter starts real school this year and ughh… How is it almost fall?!

  9. This post describes me right now perfectly (well, except I’m not getting any kids ready for back to school, I’m getting myself). Last minute shopping, checking through my class list and organizing my classroom. The day is approaching so fast and as much as I am excited about it, I’m also bummed that these sweet, lazy days are almost over.

What do you think?
