Why Did it Take Me So Long to Buy a Pinnapple Corer?

You guys, sometimes I can’t help my addiction to Amazon. But sometimes its just an item you gotta have. This latest thing I bought was such a wonderful thing especially with summer being here and knowing that we’ll be eating its worth throughout the summer.

See we love pineapple here and I don’t like to buy it in cans with preservatives. Have you ever noticed that cut pineapple can be anywhere from $4 to $7.00 in the grocery store, but a whole pineapple can be anywhere from 99 cents to $2 dollars? I decided one day that I wanted pineapple, but I didn’t want to pay $7 bucks for it. So I got the whole pineapple for 99 cents, took it home and nearly cut off my thumbs trying to cut one open. I thought, there’s got to be a better way because blood doesn’t taste too great as a pineapple topping.

So I’m surfing Amazon adding things to my wish list and I see the pineapple corer for just $7.99! I thought goodness it will pay for itself in practically one use! Prior to this, I probably spent 10 to 15 minutes cutting and chopping the pineapple hoping to avoid an ER visit.

So I buy it and it doesn’t disappoint.

Here’s a quick tutorial:

What you’ll need:

  1. a pineapple
  2. a big sharp knife to cut off the top of the pineapple.
  3. The amazing pineapple corer from Amazon.
  4. a cutting board

Before you begin using the corer, you’ll need to cut the top of that spiky thing off. Like so:

You’ll want to cut about half an inch off the top below that spiky thing, not too much though.

At this point, you can throw the spiky top away and get out that corer.

Center the corer on top of the pineapple. Once its centered, push down. The blades will cut into the pineapple. At this point, hold the pineapple with one hand while putting pressure on the top of the device and start turning counter-clockwise. It’s almost like using a screwdriver. Push in and turn the corer until you meet resistance toward the bottom of the pineapple. When you meet resistance, stop. With a pineapple newly ripened, you might have to twist and shake the corer a little bit as you are lifting it back out, but when you lift it up you’ll have perfect pineapple rings!

This video is of my first time ever using the device and you can see how easy it went! My second time was even easier because I knew what to expect.

I was so impressed with how easy it was to use, I went on to use the pineapple as a bowl for fruit salad on Memorial Day. The kids loved drinking out of them too!

Easy pineapple bowl!

Where can you buy this product? Well, the $7.99 one I bought is currently out of stock, but here’s one that looks just like it:
